Optimizing your SEO is a great way to get a lot of organic traffic to your website. Here is the step by step guide!
1. Keyword Research
You’ll need to figure out what people would search for in google to find your product, what are the optimal terms? Type out all the ideas you would have on what people would search for in google to find your product. Try to be as specific as possible for this one.
2. Check Your Data
If you’re already selling in Amazon or if you use AdWords, get your report and see what keywords people use to search your product. And once again, make a list of those keywords.
3. Keyword Tool
After you make a list, go to Google Ads Tools Keyword Planner Find Keywords. Once you run it, there will be a bunch of other words that you could potentially add to your keyword list.
4. Competition on Google
After using the keyword tool, go to Google Ads Tools Keyword Planner Search Volume. Among the keywords, figure out which of the keywords is the most impactful. Search Volume would give you an idea of how much impressions and clicks it gets.
To search for your competition, get a keyword and type it in google. See what the top results show. See how competitive the top websites are.
5. Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions
Log into your Shopify account. You want to fill up all 70 characters available, so from your keyword search, create a Meta Title from there.
As for the meta descriptions, you have up to 320 characters that you would want to fill up. In this section, you would want to write something that would sell. Think of this as a really important advertisement, a sales copy that would get people to click on your ad.
6. Link Structure
Your link structure is what appears on your website’s link, in which you would want to include your keywords as well. Go to your ‘URL and Handle’ then copy and paste your Meta Title and add in dashes in between words.
7. Optimize Header Tags
Header tags are the ‘H1’ tags in the HTML, basically it lets google know what a certain page is about. Essentially, each subheading should include your keywords.
8. Keyword Optimize Product Description
You would want to add in your keywords in your product descriptions as well, so check for that.
9. Image SEO
Rename your image and keep in mind that all the images should have different alt texts.
10. Rich Snippets
Make sure that your Shopify theme actually enables rich snippets. Copy your shopify link and go to Google Structured Data Testing Tool. This lets you know that your shopify link works and is detected.

11. Supporting Pages
You’ll want to do all the steps for all your pages; About, Home, Contact Us, etc. What you want is to optimize all your pages for people and google as well.
12. Add Site To Google Search Console
This would help google index your website so it’s something you need to do.
13. Sitemap
After creating a search console, you’ll want to create a Sitemap and submit it to them. Go to Google Search Console Crawl Sitemaps Test Sitemap then type in sitemap.xml then submit.
14. Bing Webmaster Tools
You should sign up for Bing Webmaster Tools and submit your sitemaps there as well.
To verify your ownership, copy your meta name then go to Shopify Online Store – Themes Actions Edit Code theme.liquid then add it anywhere in the head. Save it then verify. And you’re done!
