In this video I’m going to talk about Facebook ads. I’m going to show you complete walkthrough tutorial on the different types of Facebook ads and by the end of this video you’ll be able to start your first Facebook ad and hopefully do it pretty successfully. So let’s start from the very beginning this is the ad Ads manager right here for Facebook ads and you can see these are a bunch of different campaigns I’ve run in the past. So that’s that the top love level is a campaign from there if you were to click on a campaign you get what’s called an ad set and don’t get too caught up and what these different names mean it’s not super important right now. So just keep in mind goes campaign ad set and then at the very bottom ad. So within one campaign you could have multiple ad sets and within one ad set you could have multiple ads and the reason it works is campaigns kind of the big top of the funnel in a sense and campaign basically means like what kind of ads are you running then within there you’ll have different ad sets within the ad sets is where you start getting the details of who you’re going to be targeting. So let me show you what that looks like right here a good example actually would be this one back here. So DIY guide lead generation.
So that’s the the campaign is hey this is for lead generation this is trying to run quote-unquote lead ads then you can see here I have a bunch of different ad sets this one is us women to us women to and if you pull this up at an ad set you’ll see actually that all those different ad sets are different specific targeting. So I’m targeting women to who make an income over a hundred thousand dollars and have interests that happen to be related to dance wear. So just keep that in mind you have campaign at the top level ad set on the next level and then farther down is the ads. So let’s go in and let’s together let’s run our first campaign and it’s okay if you don’t fully understand what’s going on yet it’ll make more sense as we go I just wanted to give you a general overview of what’s going on. So I’m gonna go to the ads manager I’m going to click create campaign. So if you’re following along at home this is how you would create your first ad the first thing you need to do is create a campaign and then as we go down we’ll create the ad set and the app.
So let me explain there’s a bunch of different campaigns you can create a bunch of different types of ads you can run and let me explain what all these different ones are. So boost your post is a very powerful tool and basically what that does is any posts that you’ve had on your page for instance if I were to go to my Bdancewear web page which I’ll pull up here in a second. So every word go to the be dance web page here you see I have a bunch of different posts like for instance let’s say I wanted to promote this post I would use boost your posts that kind of campaign and do it like that and this is a very powerful tool I like to use it quite often I’m trying to see if there’s a good one usually you want a boost post that already have a lot of likes that one only has one like probably not worth doing if I were to scroll down I’m sure I’d see others that have more likes videos are pretty good for that etc. So that’s what boost your post does is it basically takes a post that you already have and shows it to more people Facebook allows you to spend a little bit of money to increase the reach of that. So that is something that we will definitely be trying out and there’s a lot of value in that but I’ll explain more in future lessons promote your page not one of my favorite ones but if you’re trying to get likes to your page this could be something in the early stages if you want to just get a lot of likes to your page you can use that to promote your page reach people near your business this is good if you have a local business not perfect for most of the people watching this that have ecommerce businesses but if you do have a local business say a coffee shop some kind of gym something like that this might be a good option for you increase brand awareness is not something that I use a lot I’m not actually even sure exactly what that does but I haven’t heard of anyone that really uses that to successfully. So over here is a good one send people to your website this is basically just getting traffic to your website getting clicks to your website this can be done really well especially if you’re trying to send them to a landing page where you’re trying to get their email some people depending on what your niche is you might be able to send people to your website and actually get them to convert and buy something most the people watching this that have an e-commerce store that’s not going to be the best strategy the better strategy is to send them to your website. So they can get the email. So next up it get installs your app most people watching this don’t need to worry about that you probably don’t have an app I don’t have an app ecommerce stores I would ignore this one raise attendance to your event this can be powerful if you’re throwing an event if you have some kind of event where you want to get a lot of people to it might be a smart idea to use the raise attendance to your event get video views another one that I think is very powerful I think this is one of my top four or five ones that I would run personally and this is just like it sounds like if you have a video that you want to get a lot of views on you can use get video views to show it to a lot of people on Facebook show your video to a lot of people on Facebook and get a lot of views this is really cheap and part of the reason it’s. So cheap is because Facebook is actually competing with YouTube in a sense YouTube has a lot of success there they’re taking over a huge segment of the entertainment market and Facebook wants to capitalize on it. So what it’s doing is it’s making it. So you can show video views for pretty cheap because it wants to promote videos on Facebook. So that’s very powerful still once again I think if you’re going to try to get video views I post a video on your page organically and then click on boost your posts and boost that video. So get video views is probably not going to be used as often as boost your posts and then go boosting a video. So if any of this doesn’t make sense by the way please feel free to leave questions down below I’m happy to help next up is another one of my favorite ones I’d say this is probably number two or number three maybe even number one favorite is lead ads collecting leads for your business I have videos talking about exactly what this is but basically as someone scrolling through their newsfeed. So let’s say I was scrolling through my newsfeed here you’d get something you’d see an ad like let’s say let’s see if I can find one. So for instance with this one you click sign up and instead of it taking you to an external landing page. So this takes you to an external landing page instead of doing that what would happen is there would be a pop up on the screen and it would auto insert my email in there and say do you want to get this you know whatever do you want to try for free slightly and I just say yes submit and slightly would get my email and it in return I’d get a free trial. So that’s what a lead at is the good part about that is it makes it. So you don’t even have to leave it makes it. So the user doesn’t have to leave the Facebook platform and it makes it very easy for you to collect emails. So that is that one increase conversions to your website what this does I’m gonna try to simplify this down but basically it sends people to your website and Facebook tracks it and tries to see how many people are actually converting Facebook keeps track of how many people are actually buying stuff from your website and it tries to send more traffic that will actually buy stuff from your website. So that’s another one that’s it’s worth giving a try a conversion can be completing a purchase it could be signing up for an email offer it’s whatever you decide it’s going to be it could be watching a video things like that increase engagement in your app another one we’re going to ignore get people to claim your offer I don’t use this a lot I think this is more for local businesses and promote a shopping catalogue is not something I use a lot but that’s something that I’m interested in yeah. So that’s something that will definitely that’s probably a more advanced topic we’ll look at in the future. So for the purposes of this video let’s just make it nice and simple send people to your website that’s an easy one go ahead and click continue this is one of the more straightforward ones. So next up is creating the ad sets you see here on the left hand side campaign we set the objective and then now we have to set the ad set. So the first step is to set the audience. So if you have a custom audience you can put it here this is a little bit more of an advanced topic we’re going to ignore that we’re going to assume that you’re starting your audience from scratch. So the first thing is set the location United States perfect let’s set the age range. So for me I’m going to say thirty five to forty five year old women is my target demographic I’m simplifying it here a little bit for the purposes of this video but let’s say that’s pretty standard. So then include people who match at least one of the following. So let’s say I want two people that make a certain amount of money. So these are Auto populating for me because I’ve done it in the past but usually you click browse go to demographics and let’s say financial income is a good one and let’s just click off basically for me personally I’ll say anything over , anyone that’s making over fifty thousand dollars is a good for me. So I’m just going to click them all not forty to fifty knope’s not that one you perfect okay. So that you can see my audience now is five million five hundred thousand. So narrow audience I want to I want to narrow it even further down. So they must make over two thousand dollars and let’s say they must like discount dance supply which is of my competitors or they could like let’s see another one Capezio which is another competitor or they could like and i could just go through here and name all my competitors. So you see it went from five million five hundred thousand to twenty seven thousand people. So that’s now very targeted like that’s probably a better place start and I’d probably continue going through this and adding all my different dancer solutions is another one I could probably do things like dance magazine etc etc and go through down there. So let’s scroll down a little bit connection type. So these there’s some different ways you can do this Facebook pages people that who like your page. So if you go to Facebook pages you can click on people who like your page and only show it to people who already like your page which is not what I’m going to do you can do friends of people who like your page. So that means that they’re one step removed from your website meaning that they know someone who already likes your page or exclude people who like your page and this is a pretty good one to use include excluding people who like your page might be smart because if they’ve already liked your page they already know about you these ones are some more advanced things we don’t need to go into for this video automatic placements is what I would recommend let’s set the daily budget. So this is the max amount of money you’re actually going to spend throughout a day and the actual amount might vary that’s a more complicated topic to get into but it’ll be around 20 dollars you’re not going to if you put the daily budget at bucks you’re never going to get charged dollars or something crazy like that I’d say run my ad set continuously starting today or if you want to set a start date and an end date you can do that right here. So optimization for ad delivery link clicks you could do a bunch of different you can do it by impressions or daily unique reach we’re just going to do link clicks because I want to get as many people click into my website as possible in this example I’d say put the bid amount at automatic Facebook’s pretty good at figuring out what the bid should be when you get charged I get charged on link clicks run ads all the time delivery type standard this is all pretty good stuff and then we’ll name our ad set I’m going to call this test ad set women thirty five to forty five just as an example continue. So now we’re actually getting into the actual ad as you can see on the left hand side over here this is we’re getting to the format the media the page links etc I’d say I’m gonna start with a single image or video in your at let’s go with the single image and then we’re going to choose the images here. So this is a very simple one this is not by any means ideal. So one of the things let’s upload the image this is an old image I used to use for my Facebook trying to see why is that for my Facebook ads there we go I probably would use something a little bit better now but you can see I have a bunch of different examples here with different button colors that I’ve split tested this one does pretty well for me once again this picture is not optimized for a few different reasons that I’ll get into open that up. So over here I do want to say one thing that’s very important you only want % or less of your image to contain text. So let me give you an example of why that is. So Facebook grid tool Facebook doesn’t want ads that have too much text because it starts to look too much like ads Facebook wants to keep their platform pretty clean. So one thing you can do is use this Facebook Ads text overlay tool and I’ll put that down below as a tool that you can do I’ll put this website. So you upload an image I’ll show you what it does. So upload the use this one and it’ll give you an image text rating it used to be that your image could only have % text now they kind of have a sliding scale meaning that the more texture add has the less people your ads are going to show to. So if it’s very high your ad may not run if there’s a medium amount of text your ad reach might be a little bit lower if it’s low it’s going to be slightly lower than normal but still more than the medium and if you basically have no text you’re going to probably it’s probably do better your ads are going to run more often in for cheaper you need usually you need some kind of text and in my ad I’ll just to show you what it is well you can see it here it is you know I have the website potential comm our USP our unique selling proposition plus colors made in the USA and a call to action click here once again I’m sure you guys can do a much better job than that that is just an example I don’t know why it’s not showing up here. So what happens if I okay well. So website URL you’re going to put that in and then let’s go to. So if you want to do it on your Instagram account you can I don’t know why this isn’t showing up let me try it doing a different ad you. So okay here we go just. So we can see it together. So right here Facebook feeds you this is for the desktop. So let me show you what this looks like this is the desktop newsfeed here this middle portion you can turn that on or off if you want then there’s Facebook feeds mobile you can turn that on and off as well if you want and it would look like it’s the same thing on the mobile let’s see if well basically by clicking this button view and native app it’ll push it to your mobile device. So you can see what it looks like in the newsfeed but that’s the newsfeed the middle section in your mobile device Facebook right column that is this section right here these two ads are the Facebook right column and then Instagram is showing it on Instagram and an audience network is a little bit more advanced it’s for basically for like mobile apps and like partner apps and stuff like that. So let’s go back up here and let’s finish talking about we’re doing. So let’s start with this. So the first thing is the website URL. So be dance or calm that’s probably what I’m going to keep it on I think you can do more advanced stuff like shorts let’s say I wanted that oh it’s disappearing on me again all right. So the headline is this part down here be dance our handmade be dance we’re 200 plus colors let’s just say I wanted it to say that the text is this text part right here. So for that you’re going to want to write a little bit don’t write too much you could if you want to is well include a link see if it shows up. So that way people can click up here or they can click the actual image com have the actual image and. So this is some of the different things you might want some kind of call to action. So one thing I might do is click here or click below to get our free DIY guide bdancewear.com slash DIY. So the call to action button which is optional is this like learn more thing there’s a couple different options here I like learn more I think it’s pretty like a soft sell download or signups probably a little bit more hard of a sell like people are a little bit nervous to sign up click the sign up button but it works sometimes. So the display link you’ll be dance we’re calm slash DIY guide you’d see that right there you can add some URL parameters this is the help for tracking purposes in Google Analytics once again is a little bit more of an advanced topic that we’ll get to in a separate one now one more thing is the pixel tracking I would say track all conversions from my Facebook pixel and this is basically just a little snippet of code you’d place on your website I can talk more about that but once again this is a more advanced topic for now if you know what a Facebook pixel is and you have one on your website already click there if you don’t we’ll be talking about that in a future lesson about Facebook Ads. So right here you see you know Facebook feed desktop Facebook feeds mobile Facebook right column Instagram an audience network chances are you don’t want some of these which and this next little section I’ll show you how to turn those off you have to use the power editor which is a more advanced tool to turn this off. So I’m go ahead and click place order go ahead and click place order. So it’s going to process continue. So I’m immediately going to turn that off because that’s just the test right. So from here let’s talk a little bit about the power editor. So if you go up here you can click on power editor and you need to use Chrome to run this. So if you don’t have chrome Google Chrome as your browser recommend going and downloading it it’s a it’s a great tool especially for this all right here we hire it and it’ll show right now see try refreshing all right that did the trick. So I believe what’s that clicks is the new campaign and you can go in here you can click this little pencil button to rename it. So I’m just going to call this test website clicks then if I go in here test ad set women 46 to 55. Click on that you can see the ad set right here. So this just talks about some of the different stuff you. So if you click Edit placements you can figure out where you want to show. So I’m an unclick Instagram and I’m going to unclick audience Network and then in here I can say desktop only because you know what I only want people on the desktop I don’t want to show it to people on mobile. So there you go there’s a big question on how to openly show it to people on desktop or if you want to do mobile only you could do that but this gives you some freedom to figure out exactly who you want to show to Facebook wants to make as much money off you as possible. So they’re going to show it on all their platforms I highly recommend not doing that and if you are tempted to do that segmented it out you know you should have a different ad set for Facebook mobile different ad set for desktop a different ad set for Instagram and a different ad set for audience Network. So let’s go there I’d click review changes up here and then click continue because you need to the power editor isn’t added in real time to the ads manager you can make a bunch of changes and then you can discard changes if you make a mistake or you can review changes and post it. So that’s one thing another powerful thing about the ad editor or the power editor is you can make copies. So let’s say I wanted to make a copy of this and just make one tweak instead of having to create it from scratch I can click this click duplicate button it’s going to duplicate it and there you go there’s my copy. So let’s say this one I wanted to make it to just to segment out my population I could I do that and I’d go in here and just go you to fifty-five just go ahead and click away from it review changes continue I guess I can get rid of that copy part. So that is basically from start to finish how you can run your first Facebook ad. So let’s go into some more advanced topics now really quickly. So you can see one of the things I did give it a second one of the things you can do actually is just go back to ads man oh I’m not in the right account you all right now that I’m back at the homepage of the ads account let’s go here. So one of the things that’s really powerful about Facebook Ads is you can actually create audiences click up here and click all tools there you go. So there’s a few different types of audiences you can do and some of these are just awesome. So right here I have a custom audience from a customer list. So these are all my customers from my website my main website I basically copy over their emails and it’ll create a list like that. So let me walk you through how to do that. So custom audience customer file choose a file and copy and paste the data. So here you can either add a CSV or you can just straight-up copy and paste a bunch of emails. So we like Travis at actually doesn’t let you type it only let you copy. So you could take a bunch of your emails there copy and paste them in and I’ll just show you what that looks like right here. So here’s a list of a bunch of emails I have and I just pasted them in there. So it’s only showing the first 5 rows but there’s about , rows in total. So this is a bunch of dance studios that have bought in from me that looks good upload and create it’s uploading right now alright and it’s done. So here is a list and it’s not ready yet it takes a little bit of time but it’s a list of a few thousand dance studios who’ve button from me. So first off let me rename this studio customers. So that’s the first thing you can do and then from there what you can do is create a look-alike audience and this isn’t going to work yet but the audience size is going to be anywhere from to percent of the total population of the country and what’s cool about this is you can then take this look like audience and narrow down further but what Facebook does is they basically say all right of your a few thousand people and your custom audience what do they have in common and they try to find a quote unquote look-alike audience try to find more people that have those same qualities in common I’m not going to create that right now you can see I’ve created a look like audience here before and this is almost million people that potentially should within the United States should potentially be interested in my product I have a couple different audiences I’ve used as well I’ll give you another example you see. So these are talked about earlier putting a pixel on your face on your website and one of the things that that can do is when people go to your website it’ll collect their information and put them into an audience. So for instance visitors from the last 10 days. So I have about , people in the last days who came on to my website and Facebook recognized them and said hey I know who that is that’s Sam and what happens is I can show ads directly to those people. So it’s retargeting ads and I also have let me see buyers I have a list of people which obviously the list of people that have actually bought in for me is much bigger but this is people that Facebook recognizes and I think that’s from the last days. So it’s saying basically show ads these people that have visited in the last 10 days but don’t show them to the people that have bought from me. So you’re able to use these audiences to show ads to the correct people. So that’s another very important thing. So I think I’m going to wrap it up here.
