How To Use Google Analytics and Why It’s Great!

In this lesson we talk about Google Analytics I’m going to give you a quick overview of Google Analytics and show you how to install it on your website. So let’s get right into it. So basically the first thing I’m talking about is how to set it up then we’re going to talk about some of the benefits and why you’re setting this up I’ve said this already a few times in this course but Google Analytics is the best free tool you will ever use for your Ecommerce business.

So you want to make sure you have it set up right from the beginning. So if you don’t know how to set up Google Analytics yourself there’s a link below it’s pretty easy to do there’s. So much material on the internet about it I included a link down below I didn’t want to do a whole section on it because I think it’s easy to set up and if you don’t know how to set it up click on the link and you’ll find out really quickly this is with Shopify but the same basic principles hold true with all platforms some of the benefits of analytics are you’re going to know where are people coming from how are they getting to your site are they coming from organic search Google search or are they coming from paid search are they coming from certain websites maybe you find out that half your traffic comes from Facebook and things like that. So when you know where your traffic is coming from you can better change up the message that you’re giving out you can better market your website because now you know hey maybe I’m spending up you know 20 hours a week on Pinterest and I’m not getting anybody from there maybe I should cut that off the other thing you’re going to know is where do people come from that actually buy.

So maybe you get a thousand people a week that come from Facebook but none of them are buying anything and you get 50 people will be coming from Pinterest and of them are buying something well maybe you should shift your focus over to Pinterest. So that’s another thing that you’re going to find out with Google Analytics also something you can find out is what pages are visited the most I found out for me that there was this deep a colors page that was I never thought people would go to it was something I kind of had hidden what I didn’t realize is that oh yeah the giant banner I have on my home page actually has a link to it. So hence as we talked about in an earlier lesson Google said oh this colors page must be really important and was sending people a ton of traffic there it was a really boring page it was just a long page that had a bunch of color swatches. So what I did is I realized people were coming they’re looking for dance where they might type in something like wastes magenta dance shorts and they’d see a picture of a magenta swatch and they’re like well wait a minute what do I do at this point and then they have to you know go try to think and try to figure out where it was. So what I ended up doing was I just put a link to high waist and shorts right at the top I put a link to all my best-selling products right at the top with a picture of them making it.

So people don’t have to think. So when you find out what your most visited pages are you can try to make them optimized for conversions optimized for the end user you don’t want to waste your time doing this for every little page for instance you might notice that your shipping policy gets a few people visiting it a month it’s not worth trying to make it perfect for conversions but on your most visited pages the 80/20 of your most visited pages you do want to do it also one of the things you can find out is what pages are your highest converting and which pages are your lowest converting and why. So maybe you have a product that when people land on it 10% of them convert well one thing you might want to do is try to send more traffic there another thing you might want to do is try to learn why are. So many people converting from this page and then not converting from this other page. So if you have a different product that maybe has like a point 5 percent conversion rate look at it and try to figure out why maybe you have typos maybe you didn’t even realize that you have some spelling mistakes or something really obvious. So those are some of the benefits and there’s.
